With a new month comes a new supporter of Denimhunters. For June 2012 we are honoured to have the support of Han Kjøbenhavn and their new flagship in Copenhagen. We had the chance to ask the mysterious Han Kjøbenhavn a few questions, and with the help of a good friend we also shot a short video about a Denimhunter enjoying life, which is what you should do right after you’ve watched it and read the article.
Han Kjøbenhavn was conceived four years ago on May 1st in 2008 as a child of “the mean streets of Copenhagen.” Han is made of the fundamental ingredients that has taken Danish design to the top; craftmansship, attention to detail, innovation, simplicity, and a demand to the highest possible quality. All characteristics of the brand today.
In the beginning Han Kjøbenhavn focused primarily on frames inspired from timeless designs. Today you’ll also find an impressing and growing clothing collection that includes some great denim pieces. Han doesn’t like trends, but he likes to follow classic design principles. Another thing Han doesn’t like that much is interviews, but we managed to do one anyway.
How did you get into the clothing business?
I have always worked with creativity, creating concepts, doing graphic design, writing films, all kind of different stuff. Now I’m executing most of it in acetate and fabrics.
Where did you first learn about dry denim?
From my dad’s closet, he always bought dry denim jeans and wore them until they were totally fucked. When I got older and was able to fit the same size as him (almost) he gave me his worn out jeans. I liked them but it was not the same as when I had worn out my own jeans.
What do you love the most about denim?
The everlasting quality of a good pair of denim.
What’s your favourite outfit?
Something comfortable.
What are the three items you don’t leave home without?
Only 1 thing. I always carry a mini wooden horse in my chest pocket.
What are the worst trends around today?
The word “trend”.
Which achievement in your life are you most proud of?
Being able to stay close with family and friends.
What’s your favourite TV character?
J.R. Ewing
What are you reading right now?
The Architecture of John Lautner.
Do your parents understand your job?
Yes.
Tell us something that you find interesting
Race horce names.
Do you collect anything?
No.
What did you dream of becoming as a boy?
A man.

Share the video with your friends, have a look at the Han Kjøbenhavn webshop and visit the new flagship store on Vognmagergade 7 in central Copenhagen. If you can’t get your behind up from your couch or you live on the other side of the earth, have a look at the review we did of the shop here.
Pictures and video by Mads Haugsted. Please note that Han Kjøbenhavn didn’t pay us to do the video, we just thought it would be a fun way to spread the word.
