Remember when you were a kid and you waited all December long for Christmas to come around, and when it finally arrived everything just went by in the blink of an eye. As the culmination of a project set in motion three years ago, the book presentation and exhibition of ‘the Butcher jean’, a collaboration made together with Jason Denham, must have evoked similar feelings for Bob Rijnders. To cover this special happening, Denimhunters’ photographer Michael van Hal was on the spot at the Best of Brand shop.
Before he introduced his Butcher of Blue brand, in November 2010 Bob Rijnders of Best of Brands did a special collaboration jean together with Jason Denham that they called ‘the Butcher jean’. The production was limited to 100 pairs which were sold exclusively at Best of Brands. Along with each pairs customers received a diary and for year 100 eager wearers kept track of the wear and tear of their Butcher jeans. On a Friday night in March 2012 the worn-in jeans found their way back to the makers at the Wash Friday event. The ‘report’ of the event has been on its way for a while now, but on Friday 12 April 2013 the ‘results’ of this rather extensive wear and tear project will be revealed with a book presentation and an exhibition under the name ‘Butcher of Blue’ held at the Best of Brands shop in Hoogland, the Netherlands.
Although Amsterdam is clearly the denim capital of the Netherlands, there are also a few other interesting shops for denim purists to visit in other parts of the country. One of them is Best of Brands located in Hoogland near Amersfoort. Owner Bob Rijnders recently introduced his very own Butcher of Blue jeans. As a follow-up we have had a closer look at the shop and asked Bob a few questions.
Buying a pair of Butcher of Blue is more than just buying a pair of denims. It’s about supporting your local “Butcher.” The brand is the brain child of Bob Rijnders, a passionate entrepreneur and owner of shop Best Of Brands in Hoogland, The Netherlands for 17 years. With more than 20 years of experience in the denim industry, one of Bob’s career milestones was the introduction of Nudie Jeans Co to the Benelux. Bob was also a vintage sourcer at Denham and he took part at the birth of the brand. Recently, Jason Denham and his team encouraged Bob to start his own label and with his passion and experience you should expect something special.
