In the midst of brands that are vigorously trying to create a vintage identity based on the heritage of other brands, you find Engel Original. Set up in 1927 as F. Engel after founder Carl J. Engel Senior had spent some time abroad and had been inspired by American workwear, which back then was made mainly of 100 per cent denim cotton that had to withstand all sorts of wear and tear, and last a long time. Based on these requirements, he brought with him home the idea of denim workwear with superior wearing qualities. Today, his spirit lives on in a revival of the originals that started it all.
Since the idea for Denimhunter came to me more than a year ago, I’ve spent several hours searching the web and libraries for everything related to denim and jeans. I have often felt like a “Lonesome Cowboy” in my search, but luckily I’m completely not alone.
