May 20th is a special day in denim history. On this day, 139 years ago, Jacob Davis and Levi Strauss received the patent for using copper rivets to reinforce pocket corners and other exposed stress points on workwear. A milestone in the evolution of jeans; regarded as the very creation of jeans as we know them. By adding rivets the two visionary immigrants transformed workpants into the world’s most popular and beloved garment.
