On this day, 139 years ago, Jacob Davis and Levi Strauss received the patent for using copper rivets to reinforce pocket corners and other exposed stress points on workwear. A milestone in the evolution of jeans; regarded as the very creation of jeans as we know them. By adding rivets the two visionary immigrants transformed workpants into the world’s most popular and beloved garment.
