This is the story of a man with a passion. A passion that almost seems like an addiction when you hear his story. 29-year-old Kasper “Spacey” Weinrich Schübeler is a well-known face on Danish denim scene. He has been collecting for jeans, but it was his time with Levi’s that really gave him plenty of opportunities to spend all his savings on Levi’s jeans. Today receipts and bank statements reveal a staggering amount of more than 100,000 Danish Kroner (some 13,000 euros) spent on jeans; but actually his collection worth way more than that. Because like vintage cars and bordeaux vintage denim only gains value with time.
Denimhunters is seriously branching out. Readers from all over the world are sharing our passion for denim. Our international appeal has also reached like-minded denim loving businesses that wants to support what we’re doing. It is my pleasure to introduce our supporter of the month of July 2012, Oldboy Trading Co., a collective of vintage clothing merchants from Thailand that sell rare and amazingly gorgeous vintage denim online. Read the story and background of the company below and visit the webshop here.
Someone told me that secondhand denim shopping in Amsterdam was nothing to write home about, but after visiting the city I beg to differ. Sure it’s not like London, Paris and Berlin, but you can still find some decent vintage shops. Zipper is one of such – actually there’s two of them. This is where I found my 1983 Levi’s redlines. Have a look inside one of shops for yourself.
For vintage lovers, Paris is a fantastic city. I went there myself for the first time in August 2011 and found this treasure. On almost every street you’ll find vintage shops with bountiful selections and cheap prices that will make the hunt a feast. Close to the junction of Rue de Rivoli and Rue Vieille du Temple is a blandly looking second-hand shop that turned out to be a cornucopia of treasures.
When I visited the Meadow guys in Malmö earlier in February, Christopher showed me a brand new store that had just opened. Reused 10.01 is the exclusive vintage store that the people of Malmö have been looking for for so long. The store is owned and managed by the two brothers Simon & Carl Johan, who apparently have a lot of friends – already before the shop opened on Saturday the 4th of February they had over 600 likes on Facebook. Have a look inside and see what the hype is all about.
If you’re into denim, Stockholm is without a doubt the place to go in Scandinavia. But if you bring your girlfriend, and along the way she gets a bit bored of all the denim shops you drag her into, you can always let her browse through some of the great second hand stores of the city. I visited quite a few, but this one was definitely the best.
