Coming soon

Entries open on 23 October. Get your denim ready and pick out the fades you want to show. Need photo tips? See our guide to photographing raw denim.

Submissions closed

Submissions are now closed. Thank you to everyone who entered—the gallery and public vote open on 30 October.

01Your fades

Show us how your denim has faded. Only garments that started raw or one-washed can enter. Clear photos help people appreciate the details. Natural light usually works best, and photo edits are fine—just keep the colours and fades true to life.

JPG, PNG or WebP. Big phone photos are fine—we resize them before upload.

Competition rules

The short version

Upload photos of your faded denim. We review every entry, then the community votes for its favourite fades. Prizes will be announced soon. We will announce the winners publicly on 6 November on Denimhunters and in DH Weekly.

DH15 is one event with two ways to take part in the fade competition. These rules cover online submissions. You can also drop off your worn jeans at Brund in Copenhagen, or ship them there at your own expense, to enter the physical part. You can enter both ways with the same jeans. For physical-entry details, see our DH15 announcement.

Who can enter

Anyone, anywhere in the world. If you are under 18, please ask a parent or guardian before entering. One entry per person.

Key dates

  • 23 October: submissions open.
  • 30 October: the gallery and public voting open.
  • 4 November: voting closes and we verify the result.
  • 6 November: the winner is announced on Denimhunters and in DH Weekly.

Your fades

The denim must belong to you and have been worn by you. You can enter jeans, denim trousers, jackets or shirts of any brand and age. Accessories such as bags and hats are not eligible. There is no minimum wear time.

The garment must have started raw or one-washed. The fades must have developed through genuine wear—factory fading or pre-distressing does not count.

Upload a full front photo and a full back photo of the garment, worn or laid flat. Both are required. You can also add up to two optional close-ups of the fades, repairs or other details.

Clear photos help people appreciate the fades. Natural light works well, but isn't required. Small edits are fine as long as the colours and fades stay realistic. Do not use AI to create or alter fades.

JPG, PNG or WebP. Photos taken on a phone are fine.

Voting

We review all submissions before choosing which entries appear in the public voting gallery on Denimhunters from 30 October. Submitting an entry does not guarantee that it will be included in the public vote.

Entries are presented anonymously during voting. We do not show names, Instagram usernames, brands, models, countries or identifying stories while voting is open.

The entry with the most valid votes when voting closes wins. We verify votes by email, check all votes and remove any we find fraudulent or automated. Vote totals stay hidden while voting is open. We'll explain exactly how to vote when the gallery opens.

Prizes

Prizes to be announced soon. We will publish the prize details and any specific eligibility conditions once they are confirmed.

Gift cards cannot be exchanged for cash. You do not need to attend the event in Copenhagen to be eligible for an online prize. We'll contact online winners by email after voting closes; they have 24 hours from our notification to confirm their details. If an online winner does not respond, we may offer the prize to the next-highest-placed eligible entry. Additional terms will be published with the prize details.

Rights

You keep the copyright to your photos. By entering, you allow Denimhunters to show them in connection with this competition on Denimhunters, in DH Weekly and on our social channels. Photos are shown anonymously during the vote; afterwards, we'll credit you by name and Instagram username if you've provided one.

You confirm that you took the photos or have the photographer's permission, and that anyone recognisable in them agrees to be shown.

Moderation

We may decline entries that are off-topic, misleading, offensive or that break these rules. Our decision on moderation and on the final result is final.

Your data

We use your name, email and the details you give us only to run this competition (and to send DH Weekly if you opt in). During voting we do not publish your name, Instagram username, brand or model details. After voting, your public credit is your name and Instagram username if you give one—never your email.

Personal details are deleted within six months of the competition ending. You can ask us to remove your entry at any time via the contact page. See our Privacy Policy for more.

Organiser

The competition is run by Denimhunters. It is not sponsored, endorsed or administered by Instagram, Meta or any other social platform.
