I live in sunny San Diego and spend a majority of my time working. When I’m not, I’m drinking coffee, talking denim, learning about cars I dream of having, and of course getting good food with my wonderful girlfriend.

Jacob’s Way Into Instagram

Thomas: How did it all start with your Instagram feed?

Jacob: To be honest, I only started my Instagram to keep up with my girlfriend and like all her photos! ? It’s weird how I ended up being a denim Instagrammer and now ended up doing a Blue Blooded interview!

T: Why Instagram? What are your goals?

J: I have no real goals. This is really just for fun and the love of Indigo. If I had to say I had one it would just be to get to know more people in the denim community! I’ve met lots of awesome people and hope to meet even more!

T: What’s the story of your username?

J: I came up with it years ago for my Tumblr profile. I figured my Tumblr would be everything about me and it just stuck. Now I use it for just about everything ?

T: How much time do you spend on Instagram on a daily basis?

J: I couldn’t give an exact amount of time, but I’d have to say several dozen minutes or two bursts throughout the day. As far as editing and posting, it’s usually a quick process that takes me a couple of minutes for every post.

T: What’s your flow like?

J: I generally get all my shots in the moment; I don’t plan too much ahead. I think of something and then just go and shoot it.

Every once in a while, I’ll see a super cool shot on Instagram from a fellow denim enthusiast like a certain angle or a cool detail shot and I’ll go, “I should try something like that!”

T: Which tools do you use?

J: I shoot on my iPhone and edit with Snapseed. I hope to upgrade and get a real camera someday and perhaps real software, but for now, I’m content.

T: How and where do you take your photos?

J: I don’t go out of my way for shots, not too much anyways. Not that I don’t want to do a full photoshoot day, I just end up getting busy and don’t have time.

As far and who takes my pictures, it’s usually just me or a self-timer, although I’ve definitely been known to coax my wonderful girlfriend into getting the perfect shot of my honeycombs ?

T: How often do post? And how do you remind yourself of it?

J: Once a day, generally just when I roll out of bed. Again, nothing too special or elaborate.

T: What are your favourite locations to take photos? And why?

J: Coffee shops and brick walls are always the best for me, but I also like to do flatlays in my driveway.

T: Do you repost?

J: The only reposting I do is in my stories to help support a friend, event, or something like that. I like to keep my page all my content, but then again I’m not against it, so who knows, maybe one day?

How Jacob Likes and Wears His Denim

T: How did you get into raw denim?

J: In my teens, I got my very first pair of Levi’s and fell in love. It’s pretty much been denim since but it wasn’t until I found out about selvedge that I really got into raw denim.

My real turning point was actually coming across Instagrammer @jaesungxlee. His shots inspired me to jump into the wonderful world of selvedge denim.

T: What is your favourite feature of jeans?

J: My favourite features are always small details unique to a special jean or brand, for example, the lasso stitch and pen pocket on RGT jeans; the embroidery on RRL’s coin pocket; or the crotch rivet and suspender buttons on my 1933 LVC 501s. It’s always smaller details that get me.

T: How do you wash your denim?

J: To be honest, it’s just how I feel on the wash day. I’ve hand-soaked and I’ve even just tossed them into the washer on a hot cycle (just never into a dryer).

T: What’s your favourite fit? And what’s your least favourite fit?

J: High rise anything! Straight leg, skinny leg, taper leg, probably even boot cut as long as the rise is long I’m happy. Least favourite would just be anything super low rise, simple as that.

T: Which boots and leather goods do you wear with your denim?

J: You can pretty much always catch me in a pair of Dr. Martens and my Corter Leather snap wallet in my back pocket.

T: Which sneakers do you wear?

J: If I’m not wearing high-top Chucks, I have on high-top Jordan’s. But I like to mix it up with some Vans as well.

T: Favourite item that’s not denim or leather?

J: Easily my Ewing Dry Goods x Mt.hill brass short wallet chain. The detail and craftsmanship is amazing! Such an awesome piece that I plan on having for the long run for sure.

T: Where do you buy your gear?

J: Probably, my most visited spots are Levi’s, Unionmade, Blue Owl Workshop, and the local friends at Whisky Locker in San Diego.

T: What styling tips would you give to your followers?

J: I don’t have much to say here really. Wear what makes you feel good! Be it crazy heavy 32 oz. denim or something as simple as socks with sandals, just express who you are.
